Churches of Christ
Churches of Christ are autonomous, non-instrumental congregations that emerged from the American Restoration Movement of the early 19th century, formally recognized as a distinct fellowship in the 1906 U.S. Religious Census. The movement holds that the New Testament alone provides the pattern for Christian faith and practice, rejects creeds and denominational hierarchy, requires baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, and worships a cappella (without musical instruments). Congregations are entirely independent, with no central governing body.
