The Syro-Malabar Church affirms that heaven is the ultimate destiny of the saved—a state of eternal happiness in the presence of God. The highest joy of heaven is the beatific vision (visio beatifica), the direct knowledge and contemplation of God in His essence. Those in heaven see God as He truly is and are forever united to Him in love. This vision is not merely intellectual but involves the whole person transformed and glorified.

Heaven is not a mere spiritual abstraction but involves the resurrection and glorification of the body. All believers will be raised with transformed, incorruptible bodies at the end of time and will dwell in a renewed creation. The communion of saints extends beyond death; those in heaven can pray for the living and can be asked for intercession. Believers are united not only with God but with one another in a community of love and mutual support.

Some souls, however, require purification in purgatory before entering the full presence of God. There they are purified of venial sins and the temporal consequences of sin, after which they enter heaven. Purgatory is not permanent but is a stage of sanctification leading to heaven. The living can assist these souls through prayer and the offering of masses.
