Revelation 20:1-6 literal millennium; Christ will reign personally on earth

The LDS church affirms Revelation 20:1-6 as describing a literal thousand-year Millennium when Christ will reign personally on the earth. This is a central doctrine in LDS eschatology, taught through Joseph Smith's revelations and expanding the biblical text.

LDS doctrine teaches that after Christ's Second Coming, a literal Millennium will commence. Satan will be bound for one thousand years. The righteous (those who have received the gospel) will dwell on a celestialized earth in peace. At the end of the Millennium, Satan will be loosed for a short season. This Millennium is followed by the final judgment and the organization of the kingdoms of glory. Revelation 20 is understood as prophecy that LDS theology clarifies and expands.
