Community of Christ practices eight sacraments (or ordinances): baptism (by immersion or other modes), confirmation, blessing of children, communion (Lord's Supper, open table), ordination, marriage, administration to the sick, and evangelism (patriarchal blessing). Baptism by immersion is the norm for entry into the church, though sprinkling may be accepted in some circumstances.

The community table is open to all who wish to partake. Temple ordinances — endowment and sealing — are not taught as necessary for salvation, distinguishing Community of Christ from the LDS Church. The Temple in Independence serves primarily as a place of worship, prayer for peace, and reconciliation rather than as a ritual initiation center.
