The COGC's understanding of the second coming is earthly and covenantal: Christ does not return to spirit believers away to heaven but to transform the earth and establish his reign over the nations from Jerusalem. The geopolitical and Israelite dimensions of the kingdom promises are taken seriously — the coming kingdom will be centered in the land promised to Abraham and governed by the Davidic Messiah.

The expectation of Christ's return shapes COGC community life and motivates faithful living. Members are encouraged to live in anticipation of the coming kingdom, knowing that their resurrection and immortalization depend on faithfulness to God and his gospel through the present age. The imminence of Christ's return is affirmed — it could come soon — though specific date-setting is avoided.
