The COGC does not hold to the mainstream Christian view that the saved go to heaven at death. Because the dead are unconscious until the resurrection, no one is currently in heaven enjoying the beatific vision. The hope of the COGC is not heaven as a post-mortem spiritual destination but the resurrection to immortal life in the coming earthly kingdom of God.

At Christ's return, the righteous dead will be raised and granted immortality. They will inhabit the renewed earth — the kingdom of God established by Christ — as co-regents with him. This earthly, bodily, kingdom hope is the COGC's understanding of eternal life: not disembodied existence in a heavenly realm but glorified, immortal, embodied existence in the world God is redeeming and restoring.

The COGC's eschatological vision is shaped by the promises made to Abraham (the land, the seed, the blessing of all nations) and to David (an eternal dynasty and throne). Jesus fulfills these promises as the Son of Abraham and Son of David. The new creation — the new heavens and new earth of Revelation 21–22 — is understood as a renewed and transformed earth, not as a transcendent spiritual realm disconnected from physical creation.
