Christian Churches affirm the literal, bodily, future return of Jesus Christ to earth. Christ ascended to heaven in his resurrection body and will come again visibly and physically to judge all humanity and consummate all things. This doctrine is central to apostolic faith and New Testament expectation (Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

At the Second Coming, Christ will judge the living and the dead, executing final justice and bringing all history to its appointed conclusion. The dead will be raised—some to life and blessing, others to shame and eternal punishment. The righteous will be vindicated, the wicked condemned. This is not merely spiritual or symbolic but historical and cosmic in scope.

There is diversity within Christian Churches regarding details of the end times (amillennial, premillennial, postmillennial eschatologies are all represented), but there is unanimity regarding Christ's literal bodily return, the resurrection of all persons, and the final judgment. The church's mission is neither to establish Christ's kingdom before his return nor to speculate endlessly about dates and signs, but to proclaim the gospel and live in readiness for his appearing.
