Christ will return personally, bodily, and visibly to judge all humanity
Free Will Baptists affirm the personal, bodily, and visible return of Jesus Christ. The Treatise of the Faith teaches that Christ will return to judge the living and the dead. His return is understood as a literal, future event in which Christ will come in glory, accompanied by angels, and will sit in judgment over all humanity. The same Jesus who ascended into heaven will return visibly to earth.
At Christ's second coming, all the dead will be raised. Those who have believed in Christ throughout the church age will be raised to eternal life; those who have rejected Christ will be raised to eternal condemnation. Christ will gather his people to himself, and believers will be forever with the Lord. This event marks the end of the present age and the beginning of the eternal state.
While Free Will Baptists affirm the certainty and bodily nature of Christ's return, they do not mandate a specific eschatological timeline. Many hold to a premillennial view (that Christ will return before a literal 1,000-year reign), while others hold different positions on the millennium and the rapture. The emphasis is on the certainty of Christ's return as a blessed hope and the reality of final judgment. The second coming motivates believers to holiness, vigilance, and faithfulness.
