Second Coming

The ECC affirms that Jesus Christ will return personally at the end of time to judge the living and the dead and to consummate his kingdom. This is a central article of Christian faith and is affirmed in the ECC Affirmations of Faith. The return of Christ is understood as real, personal, future, and consequential — it will mark the final judgment and the establishment of the new heavens and new earth.

However, the ECC allows diversity regarding the specific details and timing of Christ's return. Some ECC congregations and members affirm a premillennial eschatology (belief that Christ returns before the millennium), while others hold amillennial or postmillennial views. The rapture (whether it occurs before, during, or after the tribulation) is also debated within the denomination without requiring uniformity. These differences are considered non-essential to Christian faith and fellowship.

What is essential is that Christ will return, that the present age will end, that all will face judgment, and that God's ultimate kingdom will be consummated. The ECC emphasizes that the return of Christ is a blessed hope that motivates Christian faithfulness, holiness, and mission. Believers are called to be ready and watchful, living in light of Christ's return, though the day and hour remain unknown.
