Salvation through faith in Christ's ransom plus baptism by immersion into INC
Iglesia ni Cristo teaches that salvation requires both faith in Christ's ransom (his death as payment for human sin) and baptism by immersion specifically into INC. Merely intellectual belief in Christ is insufficient; one must formally enter the true Church through baptism administered by INC. The baptism is understood as a covenant sign of membership in God's true church and a necessary means of appropriating Christ's saving work. Those outside the INC do not have access to salvation, regardless of their faith in Christ.
Salvation is also conditioned upon faithful obedience to INC doctrine and authority throughout one's life. Disfellowship (expulsion from the church) is a consequence of grave unfaithfulness or doctrinal deviation, and carries severe spiritual consequences. The doctrine emphasizes that salvation is mediated through INC membership and maintained through submission to the church's hierarchical authority. This position establishes the INC as the sole true church necessary for salvation.
