Romans 9:18-21 — "God's Sovereign Choice"

Jehovah's Witnesses affirm God's sovereignty in Romans 9 while maintaining that God's election is not arbitrary or mechanical. God's foreknowledge is complete and perfect; God knows in advance who will respond in faith to his purposes. Election is based on God's knowledge of human hearts and choices, not on predetermined fate independent of human will.

For Witnesses, God's choice of a people (Israel, the church) is sovereign, and individuals who respond in faith to God's direction are chosen. This preserves both God's omniscience and human moral responsibility. The passage supports the conviction that God's purposes will certainly be fulfilled through those who choose to serve him.
