Amillennial view predominant; premillennialism not binding
Congregationalist interpretation of Revelation 20:1-6 tends toward amillennialism, the view that there is no literal thousand-year reign. The symbolic reading is predominant in Congregationalist theological education and preaching. However, some Congregationalist congregations and members hold other eschatological positions. The denomination does not impose a binding view on the millennium, though amillennialism is the default working assumption. The passage is interpreted as describing the present spiritual reign of Christ rather than a future literal kingdom.
