Yeshua pre-existed as Memra (Word/Logos); agent of creation
Messianic Judaism affirms the pre-existence of Yeshua before his incarnation. Drawing on Johannine terminology and Jewish theological categories, Yeshua is understood as the Memra (the Word) of God, the agent through whom God created all things and sustains the universe. This pre-existence is not understood as mere foreknowledge but as eternal personal existence as the Son of God. John 1:1-3 is interpreted as affirming that Yeshua was with God and was God before the foundation of the world.
The concept of the Memra, derived from Jewish Targums and mystical literature, provides a native Jewish framework for understanding Yeshua's pre-incarnate existence. This allows Messianic Jews to affirm the Nicene doctrine of the eternal generation of the Son while using Jewish theological vocabulary. The pre-existence of Yeshua establishes his divinity and his role as the ultimate fulfillment of God's creative and redemptive purposes.
