Pre-existence of Christ

The Cherubim and Seraphim Church affirms the pre-existence and eternality of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the eternal Son of God, the Word (Logos) through whom all things were made. Before His incarnation, He existed with the Father in glory, coequal, coeternal, and cosubstantial. The Incarnation is not the beginning of Christ's existence but His taking on of human flesh at a point in history.

This affirmation is central to C&S Christology and distinguishes Christ from all created beings, including angels. Christ is not a creature elevated to divine status but the eternal God becoming human. The pre-existence doctrine grounds the C&S's understanding of Christ's authority over all spiritual forces — He is Lord precisely because He is the eternal Word through whom the cosmos was created and in whom all things subsist.

The pre-existence of Christ also explains His ability to redeem — only the eternal God can accomplish redemption and break Satan's power. The C&S does not extensively develop the philosophical implications of pre-existence but affirms it as biblical teaching and as essential to understanding Christ's identity and redemptive role.
