Pre-existence of Christ

The Brethren in Christ affirm that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, existed before His incarnation. He is the eternal Logos (Word) through whom all things were created. In John 1:1-3, John declares that 'the Word was with God and the Word was God' and 'through him all things were made.'

Christ's pre-existence is foundational to understanding His deity and His role as Creator. It means that Jesus did not come into existence at His conception or birth but eternally exists as God the Son. The incarnation was not the beginning of the Son's existence but the taking on of human flesh by the eternally existing Word.

This affirmation protects the full deity of Christ and ensures that the incarnation is understood as God becoming human, not as a created being (as Arians teach) or as a merely human figure adopted by divine power (as Adoptionists teach). The Brethren in Christ maintain this orthodox Christology as essential to salvation and Christian faith.
