Original Sin

Iglesia ni Cristo teaches that humanity inherits sinfulness from Adam's transgression. All humans are born into a state of moral depravity and in need of redemption. The fall of Adam affected the entire human race, and each person is subject to sin and death. However, the exact mechanism of inherited guilt or imputed sin is not always clearly defined in INC teachings. The emphasis is on humanity's universal sinfulness and the consequent need for Christ's redemptive work.

Redemption is available through faith in Christ and membership in the true Church (INC). Salvation is presented as God's gracious offer to all humanity, mediated through Christ and appropriated through baptism and obedience to INC. The doctrine of original sin establishes the necessity of Christ's atonement and the Church's role in mediating salvation. Every person must respond to God's offer of redemption through faith and baptism.
