Nature of Jesus

The New Apostolic Church affirms the Chalcedonian Christology: Jesus Christ is one person with two distinct natures, divine and human, united without confusion, without change, without division, and without separation. Jesus is fully God and fully human, the eternal Son of God who took on human nature in the incarnation.

Jesus is understood as the mediator between God and humanity, the one through whom God's redemptive will is accomplished. His divinity gives absolute worth and efficacy to His suffering and death on the cross; His humanity means that He genuinely experienced human limitations and temptations and that He is able to sympathize with human weakness.

The NAC affirms that Christ is the head of the church and that He continues to work through His ordained apostles and ministers. Christ's resurrection and ascension did not terminate His activity in the world; rather, through the church and its sacraments, Christ continues to effect salvation and to perfect believers, both living and departed. This ongoing Christocentric focus grounds the NAC's understanding of apostolic authority and sacramental efficacy.
