Nature of Jesus

Iglesia ni Cristo affirms that Jesus Christ is truly and fully human, the Savior of humanity, and God's anointed Messiah (Christ). However, Jesus is not God in nature or essence; he is a creature, albeit the highest creature in God's creation. Jesus is understood as the Son of God in a special sense (more elevated than angels or other humans) but not in the sense of sharing the divine nature. He is the Mediator between God and humanity, the one through whom salvation is accomplished, yet ontologically distinct from and subordinate to the Father.

Jesus' role as Savior is affirmed—his death is understood as a ransom payment for human sins—but this salvific work does not make him divine. Rather, it demonstrates his special status as God's chosen instrument for redemption. The incarnation is understood as God sending his highest creature to accomplish human salvation, not as the assumption of human nature by God himself. This Christology is presented as consistent with biblical teaching and as a correction to the Nicene Trinity.
