Nature of Jesus

Disciples affirm Jesus Christ as Lord — the central confession from which the denomination's creedless tradition flows. The classic Christological affirmations of Nicaea and Chalcedon are part of the ecumenical heritage that Disciples share and are affirmed in mainstream Disciples preaching and teaching.

The denomination's theological breadth means that some progressive scholars approach Christology with more critical tools, but the working confessional posture of the denomination remains that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully human and fully divine, whose resurrection inaugurates the new creation. This is expressed in the regular confession at the communion table and in worship.
