Nature of Jesus

The BFM2000 affirms that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became flesh through the virgin birth. He is fully God and fully man — two natures united in one person without confusion, change, division, or separation (consistent with the Chalcedonian definition). He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as an atoning sacrifice, rose bodily from the dead, ascended to the Father, and will return in glory.

Southern Baptist Christology holds that Jesus' divine nature is coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Spirit. His humanity is equally affirmed — he experienced genuine suffering, temptation, and death. The resurrection is understood as a literal, bodily event essential to Christian faith and not merely a metaphorical or spiritual claim.

Jesus is confessed as Lord, Savior, and the sole mediator between God and humanity. The BFM2000 explicitly affirms his eternal preexistence, his incarnation, his atoning death, his bodily resurrection, his present intercession, and his future return as king and judge.
