Millennium

The Syro-Malabar Church affirms an amillennial eschatology in line with traditional Catholic theology. The 'thousand years' mentioned in Revelation 20:1-7 is understood not as a literal thousand-year period but as a symbolic expression of the entire church age—the period from Christ's exaltation to His second coming. During this present age, Satan is bound in a limited sense; he cannot prevent the proclamation of the Gospel, but he remains active in tempting believers.

The church does not anticipate a literal thousand-year reign of Christ on earth before the final judgment. Rather, Christ reigns now in heaven as the exalted Lord, and through His church, His kingdom advances in the hearts of believers and in the extension of the church throughout the world. At the end of this present age, Christ will return to judge all and to establish the new heavens and new earth, which will constitute the eternal kingdom.

This amillennial view is expressed in the Chaldean liturgical tradition, which emphasizes the already-not-yet tension of salvation history. The kingdom of God is already present in Christ and the church but is not yet fully realized. The full realization will come only at Christ's return. This view avoids both the triumphalism of some millennialist theologies and the pessimism of some end-times speculations.
