Literal 1,000-year reign of Christ on earth; mass resurrection and paradise restoration
Jehovah's Witnesses teach a literal, future thousand-year reign of Jesus Christ and the 144,000 (Revelation 20:4-6), during which the earth will be transformed into a global paradise and the dead will be progressively resurrected. This millennial period begins immediately after Armageddon. During the thousand years, Christ's heavenly government will rule over surviving humans and those resurrected to earthly life; God's standards will be taught worldwide; sickness, aging, and death will be gradually eliminated; and the earth will be restored to Edenic conditions.
At the end of the thousand years, Satan—who was abyssed at Armageddon's start—will be released for a 'little while' to test those who have lived through the millennium. Those who pass this final test will receive the gift of perfect human life forever; those who rebel will be permanently destroyed (the second death). This scenario gives JW eschatology a distinctive premillennial, restorationist character that emphasizes earthly paradise rather than heavenly existence as the ultimate human destiny.
