Mark 16:9-20 — "The Longer Ending"

The LDS church affirms Mark 16:9-20 as scripture. While LDS scholars may acknowledge textual-critical debates, the Church's position is that this passage is part of the revealed Word of God. The Book of Mormon quote from 3 Nephi (recorded in the Book of Mormon account of Yeshua's ministry in the Americas) includes content paralleling Mark 16:14-18.

From an LDS perspective, the presence of this material in the Book of Mormon (believed to be written before the time of textual corruption of Mark's Gospel) provides additional witness to the authenticity of Mark 16:9-20. The passage's teaching about signs following believers (v. 17-18) is consistent with LDS belief in modern revelation and signs of the Spirit. Textual-critical concerns do not override the LDS affirmation of this passage as scripture.
