John 7:53–8:11 — "The Woman Caught in Adultery"

Southern Baptist biblical scholarship recognizes that John 7:53-8:11 is not found in the earliest manuscripts and is likely a later addition. Modern Baptist study Bibles typically include textual notes indicating this uncertainty. Nevertheless, Baptist theology affirms the theological and pastoral content of the passage—Christ's compassion, his refusal to condemn, his call to repentance and moral transformation—as thoroughly consistent with the Gospel message and Jesus' teaching on mercy.

Baptist pastoral practice often uses this passage as an example of Jesus' approach to sinners and the Church's call to both holiness and compassion. The textual question does not diminish the theological value of the account.
