Seventh-day Adventism affirms the traditional reading of John 1:1, understanding the Logos as fully divine and coequal with the Father. This affirmation is explicit in the 28 Fundamental Beliefs (Belief 2), which recognize Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God, possessing full deity and all divine attributes. The Adventist understanding evolved from early skepticism toward Trinitarian theology to full embrace of the Nicene tradition by the early 20th century.

The divinity of the Logos is foundational to Adventist soteriology: only a fully divine Christ could accomplish adequate atonement for humanity's sins.
