The Word (Logos) is fully divine, coequal with God the Father
The Amish affirm the plain sense of John 1:1 that the Logos is God, coequal with the Father. This is consistent with their Trinitarian faith and their rejection of Arianism or Socinianism. The Dordrecht Confession and Anabaptist tradition inherited the classical Christian reading of this verse.
Amish biblical interpretation, while not highly technical, affirms the straightforward reading of Scripture. John 1:1 is central to Amish Christology and is understood as affirming the eternal divinity of Christ against any subordinationist or created-being doctrines.
