Faith produces works; justified by faith but demonstrated through righteous living
The Foursquare Church affirms James 2:24 as expressing the biblical truth that genuine faith necessarily produces works of righteousness. This is not understood as contradicting Paul's doctrine of justification by faith but as the necessary complement. Faith without works is dead; genuine faith is dynamic and productive.
Foursquare theology emphasizes the transformative power of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life. Sanctification and empowerment for holy living are central to Foursquare teaching. The fruits of the Spirit and witness through Christian living are understood as the inevitable and necessary expression of genuine faith in Christ.
The Foursquare emphasis on Spirit-empowerment includes the Pentecostal conviction that the Holy Spirit enables believers to live righteously and to witness to Christ through their conduct. Works are the visible testimony to the inward reality of faith.
