Hebrews 1:8 — "Your Throne, O God"

Jehovah's Witnesses deny the traditional reading of Hebrews 1:8 as calling the Son 'God.' The passage is understood as either a quotation from the Psalms applied to the Son's role rather than his nature, or as addressing the Son in a representative capacity without affirming his deity. Only Jehovah (the Father) is God in the fullest sense; Christ is the Son of God and Jehovah's instrument, but not God himself.

For Witnesses, Christ is divine in power and authority—the firstborn of all creation—but is subordinate to and distinct from Jehovah God. The Father alone is Almighty God; the Son is exalted but not equal to God. This reading supports Witnesses' conviction that the Trinity is an unbiblical doctrine.
