Extra-biblical Revelation

While the RCCG affirms the authority and sufficiency of Scripture, the church also teaches that the Holy Spirit continues to speak to the Church through prophetic gifts, words of knowledge, visions, dreams, and other charismatic manifestations. These ongoing revelations from the Holy Spirit are understood as guidance, encouragement, and specific direction for the church and individuals, rather than as additions to the canon of Scripture.

Prophetic gifts are highly valued in RCCG practice, and the church expects that God continues to reveal his will and purposes through the Holy Spirit. The General Overseer is understood as having a special prophetic ministry, and his teachings and revelations are regarded as divinely given guidance. However, all prophetic utterances and claimed revelations must be tested against the standard of Scripture: any revelation that contradicts Scripture is false. The principle is that the Holy Spirit will not contradict the written Word of God, but may supplement it with specific guidance for particular circumstances.
