Extra-biblical Revelation

The UPCI firmly holds that the biblical canon is closed and that Scripture is the supreme and final authority. No new writings, visions, or prophetic utterances can supplement or replace the Bible. At the same time, the UPCI affirms the continuing operation of all Spirit-gifts, including prophecy and tongues — both as the initial evidence of Spirit baptism and as ongoing gifts in the life of the church.

This continuationist position means that the UPCI regularly experiences prophetic utterances, tongues with interpretation, and words of knowledge in its worship services. These are understood as the Spirit's continuing communication with and through the church — genuine divine activity — but they do not constitute new canonical Scripture. All prophetic utterances must be consistent with Scripture and are subject to evaluation by the community.

The UPCI regards the experience of Spirit baptism with the initial evidence of tongues as described in Acts 2 as a normative, ongoing reality — not a first-century phenomenon that ceased. The 'latter rain' of the Spirit (Joel 2:28-29) is understood as the continuation of Pentecost, available to believers in every generation. This continuationist pneumatology coexists with the firm affirmation that Scripture remains the supreme and unchanging norm.
