Miraculous gifts have ceased; Scripture alone is sufficient revelation
The ICOC is cessationist, holding that the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit — tongues, prophecy, healing miracles — were given to authenticate the apostolic message and ceased when the New Testament was completed. The completed Scripture is sufficient for all matters of faith and life; no additional revelation is needed or expected.
This cessationist commitment distinguishes the ICOC from Pentecostal and charismatic movements and is consistent with the broader Churches of Christ tradition. Claims of contemporary miraculous gifts are treated with skepticism. The Spirit's work in believers today is real but operates through the Word rather than through miraculous signs.
