Spirit guides the community through Scripture; charismatic gifts not emphasized
Hutterites affirm the ongoing presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit in the community, understood as the Spirit illuminating Scripture and directing the community's decisions. However, Hutterites are not Pentecostal: charismatic gifts, tongues, and dramatic revelations are not characteristic of Hutterite spiritual life.
The Spirit's primary work is understood as enabling the community to live the communal life faithfully — maintaining Gelassenheit, the community of goods, and nonresistance. This is a quiet, collective, ordinary work of the Spirit rather than dramatic individual manifestations.
