Deuterocanonical Books — "Tobit, Wisdom, Sirach, Maccabees"

The Church of God General Conference affirms only the 66 Protestant biblical books as canonical and rejects the deuterocanonical books. The COGC follows the principle that the Hebrew Scripture canon (39 books of the OT) was established before the Christian era and does not include the deuterocanonical writings.

The COGC's non-denominational character and emphasis on Scripture as the sole authority mean that only texts recognized as canonical in the Hebrew Bible are accepted as authoritative. The deuterocanonical books, while containing some historical and theological value, are not understood as divinely inspired Scripture.
