The RCCG has ordained clergy including pastors, ministers, and auxiliary officers who serve in various capacities within the church. The General Overseer is understood as the chief pastor and spiritual head of the church worldwide, distinct from other pastors in authority and spiritual standing. Pastors are ordained to preach, teach, administer sacraments, and provide pastoral care to congregations.
Unlike traditional sacerdotal churches, the RCCG does not maintain a doctrine of apostolic succession or understand the clergy as a separate sacramental order. Rather, pastors are understood as called and gifted by God for leadership and ministry. The church permits women to serve in ministry roles, including as pastors and church officers, though certain positions of highest authority have historically been reserved for men. This practice reflects the RCCG's evangelical orientation while also reflecting African and Nigerian cultural contexts regarding leadership roles.
