Plymouth Brethren affirm the priesthood of all believers—every baptized Christian has direct access to God without mediation by human clergy. In Open Brethren assemblies, any baptized brother may lead prayer, preach, or administer the Lord's Supper without formal ordination. However, Brethren maintain that women are not to teach or exercise authority in the assembly, based on their interpretation of 1 Timothy 2:12 and related passages. This maintains a functional male headship in leadership roles while affirming women's full priesthood. Women participate fully in prayer, testimony, and service outside formal teaching roles.
