The Moravian Church maintains a threefold ordained ministry: deacons, presbyters (priests), and bishops. Bishops have a special role in ordination but do not exercise jurisdictional authority over presbyters. Most Moravian provinces ordain women to all orders of ministry, though this varies by province and has developed over time. The Moravian emphasis on shared ministry and ecumenical cooperation has led to openness toward women in leadership. Lay ministry is also valued alongside ordained ministry. This represents a more inclusive approach to ordained ministry than many traditional denominations.
