Church Authority

The True Jesus Church holds a distinctive and exclusive ecclesiology, claiming to be the one true restored church of Jesus Christ. This claim is based on its belief that the early apostolic church fell into error and was corrupted through the adoption of the Nicene Trinity, infant baptism, and the loss of speaking in tongues and Sabbath observance. The True Jesus Church teaches that it is God's instrument for the restoration and perfection of all things in the last days.

Church authority is vested in ordained leadership (apostles, bishops, elders, evangelists, and other officers) who are understood to receive guidance from the Holy Spirit through prophetic utterance and spiritual discernment. Scripture is the foundation, but the church's interpretation of Scripture through the Holy Spirit is authoritative for members. There is a hierarchical governance structure, with a General Assembly providing overall leadership.

This exclusive claim to be the true church creates a high boundary between the True Jesus Church and all other Christian denominations. Salvation is understood to be most fully possible within the True Jesus Church, though God's grace may extend to sincere seekers outside the church. This theology justifies the church's five sacramental requirements and strict discipline.
