The LDS Church has no prohibition on blood transfusions or any standard medical procedures. Latter-day Saints are encouraged to care for their physical health and to use the best available medical resources. The church operates Intermountain Healthcare, one of the largest healthcare systems in the western United States, which provides all standard medical care.
The Word of Wisdom (D&C 89) — the LDS health code prohibiting coffee, tea, tobacco, and alcohol — does not address blood transfusions. The LDS Church explicitly affirms members' freedom to receive all appropriate medical treatment.
