Blood Transfusions

Iglesia ni Cristo has no restriction on blood transfusions and accepts modern medical care as a legitimate means of preserving health and life. Members are free to receive blood transfusions if medically necessary. This position distinguishes INC from certain other groups (such as Jehovah's Witnesses) that restrict blood transfusions on religious grounds. The restriction on eating blood (Leviticus 17:10-12) is not understood as extending to blood transfusions for medical purposes.

Medical intervention is understood as consistent with responsible stewardship of the body and is not considered contrary to faith in God or reliance upon his providence. The acceptance of blood transfusions reflects a pragmatic approach to medical ethics and an affirmation that modern medicine can be used in accordance with biblical principles.
