The Syro-Malabar Church affirms a classical theistic understanding of God's nature developed through centuries of Syriac and Catholic theological reflection. God is the infinite, eternal, unchangeable ground of all being. God possesses all perfections in fullness: omnipotence, omniscience, transcendence, and immanence. God is not subject to time but exists in the eternal present, knowing all things past, present, and future.

The church teaches that God is supremely perfect love and is self-giving. The Chaldean liturgical tradition emphasizes God's merciful nature and creative power. God's justice and mercy are in perfect harmony; divine punishment of sin flows from God's holiness and justice, while the offer of redemption through Christ flows from God's merciful love.

God's relationship to creation is one of free creative act. God does not need creation but freely brought it into being. God's providence guides all creation toward its fulfillment in the kingdom of God. The church maintains that God is not an impersonal force but a living personal God who hears prayer, responds to the cries of the afflicted, and acts in history for the salvation of humanity.
