Amillennial (traditional Catholic reading); spiritual reign; no literal 1,000 years

The Old Catholic Church affirms the amillennial interpretation of Revelation 20 and eschatology generally. The thousand-year reign of Christ is understood symbolically as the present spiritual reign of Christ in the church through the Holy Spirit, not as a future literal reign on earth. During this present age, Christ reigns from heaven; the church participates in his victory; and the gospel is preached to all nations.

Satan is bound during the church age in that his power to completely deceive the nations is restrained, though he remains active in temptation and opposition. The first resurrection (Revelation 20:4-5) refers to spiritual resurrection and rebirth in Christ through baptism and faith, not bodily resurrection. The second death refers to final judgment and condemnation of the unrepentant.

This amillennial view integrates well with the church's sacramental theology: Christ's reign is made present and efficacious through the sacraments, particularly the Eucharist. The culmination of all things comes at the parousia when Christ returns in glory, raises all the dead, and establishes the new creation. This view emphasizes the church's present participation in Christ's victory while maintaining eschatological hope for his final return.
