Sunday is the Sabbath for Latter-day Saints; strict observance expected
The LDS Church observes Sunday as the Sabbath, consistent with the earliest practices of the restored church as stated in the Doctrine and Covenants (D&C 59:9–13). Sunday is to be kept holy by attending church, resting from work, abstaining from commerce and recreational activities, and focusing on family, worship, and service. The Church has in recent years encouraged more intentional Sabbath observance.
The LDS Sunday Sabbath is not the Saturday Sabbath of Seventh-day Adventists and is not adopted from Mosaic law but from revelation through Joseph Smith. Faithful Latter-day Saints are expected to avoid shopping, working (unless essential), and entertainment on Sundays, treating the day as set apart for God.
