Methodists recognize that Revelation 20:1-6 admits of multiple interpretations and do not require uniformity on eschatological details. Some Methodists read the thousand years as literal future millennium (premillennialism); others as symbolic of the church age (amillennialism); others as symbolic of final consummation (postmillennialism).

Methodist theology emphasizes that eschatological debates should not divide the church. The Methodist focus is on present faithfulness, growth in holiness, and works of mercy and justice. What matters is trust in God's ultimate triumph and commitment to the Christian life now, not agreement on prophetic details. John Wesley was not dogmatic about eschatological schemes.
