These appearances (often called theophantes or Christophanies) include the angel of the Lord in various Old Testament narratives, the divine messenger who appeared to the patriarchs, and the voice speaking from the burning bush. While these pre-incarnate manifestations are sometimes debated among scholars, the IFCA maintains that these were genuine appearances of the pre-incarnate Christ.

The eternal pre-existence of Christ establishes his absolute deity and explains his role as the mediator and redeemer. Only one who is truly God could accomplish the work of redemption, sustain all creation by his power, and deserve universal worship. The doctrine affirms the oneness of God's work across the testaments and the continuity of God's self-revelation throughout history.
