The EFCA Statement of Faith describes God as 'holy love and all perfecting' — language that combines the traditional emphasis on divine holiness with the Johannine emphasis on God as love (1 John 4:8). God is infinite, personal, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, perfectly righteous, perfectly wise, and omnipotent. He acts in history and is intimately involved with his creation.

The EFCA's theology of God reflects its evangelical Protestant heritage: God is sovereign over all creation and history, his knowledge is comprehensive, his power is unlimited, and his purposes are perfect. At the same time, the EFCA's relational theology of grace emphasizes that God's sovereignty is exercised in love — he is not an abstract deity of pure power but the God who 'so loved the world that he gave his only Son' (John 3:16).

The EFCA does not prescribe a specific position on the classical debates within theism — open theism vs. classical theism, divine impassibility vs. divine passibility — but its Statement of Faith is written in language compatible with the broad mainstream of Christian theological tradition. God's sovereignty, love, holiness, and personal knowability are all confessed as essential to the EFCA's understanding of who God is.
