Eternal, personal, omnipotent God; Creator and Sustainer of all things

The BFM2000 describes God as an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being — the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and eternal. He is not dependent on any creature and exists necessarily as the self-existent I AM.

Southern Baptist theology affirms the classical theistic attributes: God is all-knowing, all-powerful, everywhere present, perfectly holy, perfectly just, perfectly loving, and perfectly wise. These attributes are held to be essential to the divine nature, not arbitrary labels. God acts in history — creating, sustaining, redeeming, and finally judging — and is personally knowable through Jesus Christ and through Scripture.

While the SBC does not mandate a specific position on every point of classical or open theism debates, it broadly stands within the classical theist tradition, affirming God's sovereignty, foreknowledge, and providential control over all creation.
