Fully divine and fully human; eternal Son incarnate; risen Savior and Lord
The ECC affirms classical Christology in accordance with the Chalcedonian definition: Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, two natures united in one person without confusion, change, division, or separation. He is the eternal Son of God, coequal with the Father in power and glory, yet he became flesh, was born of the virgin Mary, and lived a fully human life, experiencing temptation, suffering, and death.
Jesus is understood as the Savior and Lord of all creation. Through his death on the cross, he accomplished redemption for sinful humanity. His bodily resurrection is affirmed as a central historical claim and spiritual reality essential to Christian faith. The resurrection demonstrates the validity of his claims, the victory over sin and death, and the beginning of the new creation.
The ECC teaches that Jesus is the sole mediator between God and humanity and the exclusive way to salvation. Yet the denomination emphasizes that Christ came not to condemn the world but to save it, expressing both the uniqueness and finality of Christ and the breadth of God's mercy. Jesus is confessed as Lord and worshiped as God, yet his humanity is equally affirmed. He is currently exalted at the right hand of God and will return as judge and king.
