The Church of the Brethren affirm Chalcedonian Christology: Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, one person in two natures without confusion or separation. He is the eternal Word (Logos) who became incarnate in human flesh.

Jesus's divinity is affirmed: He is the Son of God, coequal with the Father, through whom all things were created. His humanity is equally affirmed: He had a real body, mind, and will; He experienced temptation and suffering; He was fully subject to the conditions of human existence (except sin).

In the Church of the Brethren, emphasis is placed on Christ's teachings, particularly the Sermon on the Mount and His emphasis on love, peace, and reconciliation. Jesus's nonviolent resistance, His teaching on forgiveness and love of enemies, shapes the church's peace witness and ethical practice. Christ is not merely a doctrine but a lived example of God's love.
