Disciples have no binding position on military service. The denomination has significant peace-church sympathies — particularly through its relationship with the ecumenical movement and its social justice commitments — and has passed resolutions calling for peace and opposing particular military actions. However, military service is not prohibited, and many Disciples members serve in the armed forces.

The denomination's ethic leans toward peacemaking and diplomacy, shaped in part by its ecumenical and progressive theology. Some congregations and members hold pacifist convictions, while others support military service in defense of justice. Individual conscience is respected on this question.
