May have disputed textual status; Trinitarian doctrine strongly affirmed from other texts
The Church of the Nazarene affirms Trinitarian doctrine strongly and may include 1 John 5:7-8 in the longer form in its biblical translations. However, the Nazarene theology does not depend primarily on this passage for its Trinitarian affirmation. Other passages (John 1:1, Matthew 28:19, etc.) provide clearer and more original support for the doctrine.
The Nazarene approach is primarily to affirm the Trinity as a whole rather than to engage extensively in textual-critical debates. The passage may be received as Scripture in the form available in common translations, while the deeper basis for Trinitarian doctrine lies elsewhere in the New Testament.
